The renovation of West Plymouth Fire Station #2 doubled the size of the original station built in 1975; it was determined that it needed a major renovation of the living spaces and apparatus bays. The new station is now 20,000Sq ft with a two-story addition. This was all accomplished on a small lot and we were able to keep the station operational during the construction.
Our design of the dayroom/kitchen was created to give the firefighters a space to gather and decompress. Interior finishes/ materials in the station were selected for their durability and warm tones, instilling more of a feeling of home than a workplace.
Other features of the completed station include four (4), 86-foot deep drive-through apparatus bays and a mechanical bay. The two-story station design includes offices, an exercise room, gear and laundry facilities, a fitness room, 9 bunker rooms, a gender-neutral restroom, a decon room, and a watch room. The open-concept dayroom/kitchen provides a space to congregate.
On-site improvements included an above-ground generator, a new diesel tank, landscaping, and added personnel and community parking. Also included is an outdoor patio with a grill for the first responders to enjoy.
The station incorporates Hot Zone design features, a state-of-the-art exhaust air system in the apparatus bays, an emergency generator, and an on-site fueling station. Also, included is sustainable LED lighting throughout the building.
